Easy week. Made the new email domain of cwyrough@cwyrough.me… amusing address. Haven’t received a single email from it. I also installed the anti-spam program but hadn’t received any spam before that so I’m not sure how necessary it was.
When looking playing around with the themes I first picked out one that did not really have any customization options. The only thing I could change was the title of blog and the colors so I ended up getting rid of it. After watching the online tutorial Thursday night—during really—I ended up searching through the internet for something random and more exciting and ended up choosing a Mario theme. I’m sure I’ll end up changing it again later in the semester (also not many customizing options).
I also played around with the sidebar widgets. It was cool to see what was what.
My welcome site is cwyrough.me
I did the Daily Creates from Sunday (I hope that was allowed) with the pun and Wednesday’s design an action poster of Julia Childs.

The gif was definitely the biggest challenge of the week just because I have never made one. I ended up just googling how to do it and figured out that I needed to download a video off of youtube (for the easiest way). I picked The Lord of the Rings because I love those stories and movies and Gimli just for some comic relief. After I downloaded the video off of youtube, I cut the video down with the iMovie on my Mac to a one second clip. After that I ended up downloading an app out of the app store called iLivid that makes gifs. Then I embedded it onto my blog. It didn’t work for a while after I was changing the themes, but I reworked it and it was fixed.

The Mario theme is fun, but yes, you can change themes every day. You don;t want customization options because… you don;t want to lose/redo them? You don;t like customizing?
FYI I am not seeing anything but the bus for http://cwyrough.me I was asking you to create even a basic wordpress site there just in case someone tries that URL.
And for some reason I like that pun.
And that is exactly what I hope for in the challenge of GIF making, to see how you go about figuring things out.
Hi Cole! I’m excited to be in comment group 4 with you. That being said, I really like your Mario theme but there are a few things that are bugging me about it. First off, the “sponsors” widget at the top left of the page. I do not understand why it is there and it just looks off to me being so blank. If I were you, I would remove it.
I also am not a fan of the Carousel toward the top of your page. I have seen carousels used rather well before but yours just is not working for me. It would be one thing to have pictures in your carousel but having your last post in it makes your blog look confusing.
Despite those issues, I like your post but feel that it is lacking. Where are the hyperlinks? Could you maybe link to the iLivid website for example?
Also, as an fyi, I’m a mac user too and you can actually use Quicktime to cut down video clips if you do not want to use iMovie. I wrote about it on my blog and can explain it more if you’d like.
Just out of curiosity, what program did you use for your Julia Child’s movie poster? I am always looking for paint like programs for mac and can not seem to find one I completely love yet.
I usually wouldn’t suggest red and blue for colors on a website, but I guess with Mario, it seems to work. I hope you’re a gamer, and post some gamer-related things, though!
As Nancy said, I think maybe you should do something with the slider/Carousel on your front page. I have a feeling your theme allows you to make the slider images pages (and if it doesn’t, I can show you how to modify that). If it does, you could change it to pages and then have those pages direct to things like your About Me or maybe other posts. If you don’t want to do that, then maybe having featured images in your posts would put images there instead of just text? I honestly didn’t know what that section was until Nancy pointed it out in her comment!
And don’t be afraid of customizing! Since we’re in a group together, I don’t mind helping you figure something out if you don’t like the way something looks.
One little question! Why did you pick this particular theme? Besides it not having a lot of customizing.. lol
It was a different theme that I couldn’t customize. I’ve been working on how to get rid of the carousel but haven’t figured it out as of yet.
